LA VERNE, Los Angeles County — October 24, 2026. La Verne was added to California’s 2026 Fire Risk Reduction Community List after a decision by the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection on June 17. The city reported the designation in a July 7, 2026 announcement, describing local wildfire-preparedness measures that helped qualify the community.

What the designation represents

The state initiative recognizes local agencies in certain high-fire-hazard jurisdictions that meet established risk-reduction planning practices. La Verne points to emergency access standards, defensible space rules, vegetation and fuel management, inspections and coordination across departments. Its inclusion does not certify that all homes are hardened against fire or that future fires can be prevented.

Could it reduce homeowners’ insurance?

The city says recognition could improve eligibility for certain wildfire prevention grants and that some residents might qualify for homeowners insurance discounts. **Those benefits are not guaranteed.** Carriers and policies differ, and each homeowner should contact their insurer for documentation of any available wildfire-mitigation credit. The city’s announcement does not specify a universal savings percentage or premium reduction amount.

What residents can do now

Practical measures include maintaining appropriate defensible space, considering home-hardening steps, enrolling in official alerts and maintaining family evacuation arrangements. People should check the applicable local fire code and fire-department guidance rather than infer a universal legal clearance distance or seasonal requirement from an overview article.

La Verne Fire Department lists 909-596-5991 as a contact for wildfire-preparedness information. Anyone interested in the designation’s public spending impact can seek related city budgets, grant awards, council records and inspection statistics. State recognition does not prove that the city has already received a new grant.
